I distill my lavender essential oils and lavender hydrosols in small batches using a premium copper still and well water. My oil infusions are made with Regenerative Certified Organic Sunflower Oil from La Tourangelle, grown in Meridian, CA and pressed in Sutter County, CA. My Lavender is organically grown, %100 dry farmed, and hand harvested in Avila Beach, California. All ingredients are stored in glass.
In ancient Alchemy, distillation was seen as a sacred process, it was the act of releasing the soul of a plant through fire and water, capturing the spirit of that plant in every drop. Distillates were named "spirits" and were considered potent medicine because it was believed that through the process of distillation the healing essence of the plant were transformed into liquid.
I do my best to honor the ancient craft of distillation every time that I distill. Through reverence and presence with the process, and by using the best ingredients and materials that I can. I feel honored to be able to carry this tradition and find modern and relevant applications for this ancient practice.
Essential Oil and Hydrosol are the two products of distillation. As the well water evaporates into steam inside the copper chamber, the steam passes through the plant matter causing the essential oils to evaporate. These vapors are then cooled and condensed back into liquid and the essential oil is skimmed off of the top of the water surface resulting in:
Essential Oil – The concentrated, oil-soluble aromatic compounds that float to the surface.
Hydrosol – The water-soluble components, along with trace amounts of essential oil, suspended in the remaining distilled water.
Both products capture the essence of the plant, but hydrosol is gentler, making it ideal for facial mists and toners.
Oil infusion is an ancient practice rooted in herbal traditions and early alchemy, where plants are steeped in oils to extract their essence over time. The beauty of infusion lies in its slowness, allowing herbs to release their properties gently, day by day, as they steep in oils under the warmth of the sun. What emerges becomes a therapeutic blend, holding the memory of the plant’s teachings and offering it to nourish and heal both body and mind.
The earliest records of oil infusions weave through the apothecaries of ancient Egypt, where priests consecrated oils with sacred herbs for rituals of healing and embalming. In medieval Europe, alchemists revered the process as a miniature reflection of the Great Work—their quest to transform matter and spirit into a state of perfect harmony. They believed that as the oil absorbed the plant's soul, it became something greater: a vessel of life, a remedy that contained the quiet wisdom of nature.
